The solar disk setting into a bank of dark clouds on January 18th 2012. Above can be seen fine complex cirrus clouds similar to the herringbone structure within Noctilucent Clouds (NLCs), the clouds in this image are coloured due to the affects of iridescence or a weak corona. Through the camera viewfinder I could see active sunspot groups 1401 and 1402 easily with the naked eye through the 100-400mm lens. * All images are available for sale in the form of photo prints, canvas or digital files for licensing, if you are interested in a purchase simply drop me an email.
